A Fond Farewell to a Valued Tradition: the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale

May 28, 2025—After more than 70 years, the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce announces the retirement of the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale.

In recent years, the industry has experienced a gradual shift, with fewer consignments and breed varieties represented at the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale. Advancements in technology have enabled producers to market and sell genetics directly, reshaping how agriculture supporters can best support cattle producers in the region.
Sincere gratitude goes to the consignors, buyers and supporters who have been part of the Sioux Empire Purebred Cattle Show & Sale’s long and meaningful history. Their commitment has helped shape the cattle industry across the region and beyond. Special thanks to the most recent Supreme Row Sponsors — The First National Bank in Sioux Falls (gold), First Bank & Trust (silver), Cattle Business Weekly (bronze) and M.H. EBY (prize sponsor) — whose generous support has played a meaningful role.
As this chapter closes, there is deep appreciation for the past and optimism for the future. Previous consignors and buyers are wished continued success as they lead the way in livestock excellence. Their hard work and innovation will ensure a strong future for generations to come.

Although this marks the end of one tradition, the junior livestock shows and the Sale of Champions will continue as an essential part of ongoing efforts to support youth exhibitors, agriculture and the livestock industry. The format may evolve, but the commitment to celebrating and supporting agriculture remains unwavering. Exciting opportunities lie ahead, and the community is invited to take part in future events.
